INTRODUCTION

International Women’s Day is celebrated internationally each year on 8 March. While this date has been celebrated since the early 1900s, the United Nations has observed March 8th as International Women’s Day since 1977 to highlight that active participation, equality and development of women is necessary for securing peace, social progress and human rights; and to acknowledge the contribution of women to the strengthening of international peace and security. This year’s theme is “Investing in Women and Girls” with a strong focus on country level financing for gender equality.

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate women’s achievements and look ahead to the exciting opportunities that await women. The key to a bright future is choice. Women must be free to choose the path that is right for them, a path that is out of harm’s way and allows them to move forward and realize their potential. Women with disabilities are the most vulnerable amongst women and they are doubled discriminated by the society. Education of girl with disabilities and employment of women with disabilities is a crucial step for ensuring the rights of women. International women’s day celebrates all over the globe but issues of women with disabilities are overlooking all the time.
