NATIONAL disability DAY OBSERVENCE-2008

INTRODUCTION

.

National Disability Day is celebrated nationally each year on first Wednesday of April. This year the 10th “National Disability Day” has been observed on 2nd April. At the same time the United Nations has declared the 2nd April as the “World Autism Awareness Day”. So, in this year the theme of the National Disability Day was selected as “Social Awareness about Autism”

 

Program

 

Ministry of Social Welfare, National Disability Development Foundation, Department of Social service and NFOWD organized rally and discussion jointly on the occasion of National Disability Day. Organizations those are working for ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities participated in the rally. Centre for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) also participated in the rally with its program participants. At 10:00 AM a colorful rally of children with disabilities, women with disabilities, persons with disabilities, their family members, and CSID

personnel and many other people took the street in the city started from Radio Bhaban Agargaon and end it to the. The participants of the rally holding different placard festoons noticing slogans to sensitize the rights, opportunities and dignity of persons with disabilities. The program participants and CSID personnel wear red and green colored ribbon in both hands. After the rally a discussion session was organized in the Auditorium

of Samaj Sheba Bhaban, Agargaon where took part discussion about “National Disability Day” and “World Autism Awareness Day”.  The discussant were Mr. Monsur Ahmed Choudhury, director National Disability Development Foundation, Mr M.A. Hai Hawlader, Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, Brigadier General(ret.) M.A. Maleque, Special Secretary of Honorable Chief Adviser and Khandaker Jahurul Alam, President, NFOWD. The key note paper presenter was Ms. Sharmin Nilodri, Assistant Profession, Jahangir Nagar University
